Sustainability at Wolverhampton Literature Festival and Wolverhampton Arts and Culture
At Wolverhampton Literature Festival, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices across all aspects of the festival. As part of our ongoing efforts, we work closely with our venues, artists, and audiences to embed sustainability into our planning and delivery.
Sustainable Travel
- We actively promote sustainable travel options for both audiences and artists.
- Wolverhampton Art Gallery offers a Metro discount—visitors can receive 10% off when using the metro when visiting the gallery.
- We encourage our artists to travel by train wherever possible and prioritise booking local acts to reduce travel-related emissions.
- Attendees are encouraged to book online and use digital tickets, helping to reduce paper waste and the festival’s overall carbon footprint.
Digital-First Approach
We have adopted a digital-first strategy for communication, engagement and evaluation:
- QR-coded signage is placed throughout the gallery, linking to online feedback forms.
- Programmes and schedules are available digitally to minimise printing.
Environmental Awareness Through Programming
- We work closely with participating artists to raise awareness of environmental issues through our festival programme.
- Events and discussions often explore themes of sustainability, climate change, and ecological responsibility, helping to inspire action and dialogue within our community.
Wider Sustainability Commitment
Based in the culturally significant Wolverhampton Art Gallery and sitting within the Libraries and Arts and Culture service for City of Wolverhampton Council, the festival benefits from a broader commitment to sustainability. This includes:
- Energy-efficient building management.
- Responsible waste disposal and recycling.
- Ethical procurement policies.
- Community engagement in environmental initiatives.
- Staff training and use of the City of Wolverhampton Council Climate Emergency Toolkit.
