Liz Berry is the author of Black Country, which won a Somerset Maugham Award, the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize, and the Forward Prize for Best First Collection. Her latest collection, “The Republic of Motherhood”, turns her distinctive voice to the joy and anguish of becoming a mother, through its darkest hours to its brightest days. With honesty and unabashed beauty, the collection bears witness to that most tender of times – when a new life arrives, and everything changes.
Roy McFarlane was born in Birmingham of Jamaican parentage and spent most of his years living in Wolverhampton and the surrounding Black Country. He has held the role of Birmingham’s Poet Laureate and is presently the Birmingham & Midland Institute Poet in Residence.
