The Ishiguro Songbook with Dana Lyn, David Driver, and an ensemble orchestra featuring Wolverhampton musicians.

In this unique show, American musician/composers Dana Lyn and David Driver perform their musical exploration of Kazuo Ishiguro’s work. The first act features music that has appeared in, or has inspired, Ishiguro’s fiction, along with songs he co-wrote with Jim Tomlinson for singer Stacey Kent. With the second act of the show, Wolverhampton will see the world premiere of selections from THE RYDER SUITE, a song cycle based on Ishiguro’s masterful, surreal, and often hilarious novel The Unconsoled.  Ishiguro has described The Unconsoled as an experiment with “the language of dream.” Lyn and Driver have assembled an ensemble orchestra, with piano, strings, horns, guitar, bass, and custom-created percussion, to translate and evoke the novel’s distinctive tone.

David Driver organised Songs From The Stonewall Jukebox, his tribute to the Stonewall uprising featuring music that was on the bar's actual jukebox during those events, at NYC's Symphony Space in 2019. He starred in Heidi Rodewald’s and Donna DiNovelli’s The Good Swimmer at Brooklyn Academy of Music's 2018 Next Wave Festival. He's worked with Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed, Elvis Costello, Debbie Harry, amongst others, and performed in the original Broadway cast of the musical RENT as well as the Off-Broadway rock opera People Are Wrong!

Dana Lyn has performed the world over. A violinist/fiddler, violist, pianist and enthusiastic bass player, she is at home in a wide range of musical genres and has worked with Tony Award-winning musicians Stew and Heidi Rodewald, actor-directors Ethan Hawke and Vincent D’Onofrio, D’Angelo and the Vanguard, 2017 MacArthur Fellow Taylor Mac, and Bruce Springsteen.
As a composer, she has received commissions from the Brooklyn Rider, the National Arts Council of Ireland, the Inception Orchestra, the Apple Hill String Quartet, the Portland Chamber Music Festival and the New Orchestra of Washington, among others. Her music has been performed at the Savannah Music Festival, the Kilkenny Arts Festival, Austin’s NMASS, the Rockport Celtic Festival, and at Carnegie Hall.
