Circuses still regularly come to Wolverhampton, but few people know about the town’s own contribution to the circus world. From about 1920 onwards Wolverhampton was the home and ‘base’ for Bronco Bill’s Circus and Wild West Show. His two elephants, Salt and Sauce became friends to many local people, and future generations of Bronco Bill’s family became important figures in Wolverhampton’s history.
Wolverhampton later was the birthplace of one of top aerial stars of the American circus world. A great Japanese circus acrobat left the show to run a much loved local fish and chip shop. This illustrated talk will reveal Wolverhampton’s amazing circus secrets – also revealed in Ned Williams’ latest book: Four Swallows and Two Elephants.
The book will be on sale after the presentation.
